In this project, we set out to redesign South Dakota School of Mines & Technology’s website. The existing website was outdated and difficult to use. The goal of the redesign was to create a website that was user-friendly, informative, and visually appealing.
Our main challenge was to create a website that would meet the needs of a wide range of users, including prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Our focus was to help each type of user to successfully accomplish their tasks in the easiest and most straightforward path, and at the same time make it inviting and engaging to the user. For the UI design we had to follow pretty strict brand guides as the client recently went through a rebranding process. We were also asked to find ways to feature the surrounding areas of the school in the design as this is one of their main selling points.
The project is still in design phases and is scheduled to launch in 2024.
I started the project with creating the homepage wireframe. The client requested that we emphasize the community, outdoors, and opportunities the university provides their students.

Each designer took a few sections from the homepage and designed them by the art direction we agreed on. I decided to go with big images, sharp corners, and clean lines to give a technical but still inviting and engaging feeling.

The client chose a combination of my proposed design strategy along with additional pieces from other's. These were implemented into the homepage by a different designer in a cohesive way and as one design language.
